Exploring Russian Gulch State Park
Which Hiking Trails Should I Explore?
Headlands Trail
For an easy trail that’s under a mile long (and dog-friendly!), we recommend the Headlands Trail. This trail doesn’t have significant elevation changes, making it easier for walking. You’ll see breathtaking ocean views as you walk along the shoreline.
As you make your way down the trail, you’ll eventually reach Devil’s Punchbowl, a basin that is 100 feet wide and 60 feet deep, where a sea cave collapsed! It’s an amazing sight to see as the waves crash against the rocks in what looks like a giant punchbowl!
Fern Canyon Trail
Go on an enchanting two-mile journey along Russian Gulch Creek when you explore the Fern Canyon Trail. For two miles of the trail, you can ride your bike as well! This trail is absolutely stunning and takes you to a tropical waterfall.
Falls Loop Trail
For 1.6 miles, you can enjoy the Falls Loop Trail. This path stems off of the Fern Canyon Trail and leads hikers to a diverse variety of habitats with beautiful flowers! The sight is the perfect reward after a thrilling and adventurous hike! Don’t forget to take pictures!
Is Fishing Permitted at Russian Gulch State Park?
Although fishing isn’t allowed in Russian Gulch Creek, seasoned anglers are welcome to cast a line in the ocean. Just make sure to bring your fishing license!
Can I Swim at Russian Gulch State Park?
Yes! You can take a refreshing dip in the water at the mouth of Russian Gulch Creek or on the beach.
